 Don't Forget!  Eat Your Veggies

     Eat your vegetables and help protect yourself against Alzheimer's disease.

     Two Studies reported at the World Alzheimer's Congress 2000, noted that high intake of certain antioxidants was associated with lower risks of decline in brain function.
     Researchers found that people who ate lots of vegetables and other foods containing vitamins E and C were less likely to develop Alzheimer's diseases or vascular dementia, caused by hardening of the arteries.
     A second study by St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago found that in people 65 and older, high vitamin E intake was associated with reduced decline in memory and other brain functions.

Is a living will enough?

     After Terry Schiavo, Americans increasingly want to know how to draw up advance health care directives should they be unable to make decisions for themselves.
      A health care power of attorney provides the person you select with the legal right to make decisions for you if you no longer can.  If you create a health care directive, experts suggest you share copies with both family members and your doctors.
